'Being a part of the RPC has given us the opportunity
to dare, to brave into unconventional forms of doing research and giving voice to women'

Cecilia Sardenberg
Latin America Hub Convenor

'I started my research for the RPC Arab hub in a situation of full siege on Gaza, no mobility and communication with the outside world. I thought it would be impossible to do anything serious for my research as the electricity is off for more than half a day at a time because the Israelis cut off the provision of fuel for the Gaza electricity station. In such a miserable inhuman situation, I just wanted spiritual support that makes me able to stand against the feeling of frustration and depression and to go on with my research. The only source of support I received was from the RPC staff. Andrea Cornwall, Ann Whitehead and the members of the program in the Women's Studies department/BirZeit university have all showed their interest to help. They all gave me the spiritual support and the information and financial facilities needed for my research. It was so motivating for me to negotiate the complexity of my situation with the RPC staff as this makes me feel that I am not by myself in the world of women. I realized throughout my short experience with the RPC staff that the common sense and values of womenhood, regardless of the different nationalities and cultures, is a strong motivation for making change.'

'The RPC has offered me a range and choice of interactions with the
world, with others in my own region and with the issues that define women's
empowerment as a cause and as a field of action and knowledge that would have been impossible and unattainable for me. It has given me a very supportive and inspiring peer
group.'

Firdous Azim 'It was quite a shift to come into research on women's empowerment and to be able to shape this part of the research was quite refreshing. We are having an exciting time at BRAC'

Firdous Azim
BRAC University and South Asia Hub Research Team Leader on Religion and Media projects
'At the beginning, it was difficult for me to capture the whole story, vertical hierarchy, horizontal hierarchy, sharing in all the details, deciding about who will do what and how, so many issues and it was hard to digest them all at once. After time and with the tremendous support and power sharing, I felt more at ease and my colleagues in the RPC became like a supporting family for me, I was not shy to show my weaknesses and my limitations at some point. Through power and knowledge sharing, I learned a lot. The RPC is an eye opener for me, a new way to do research, a new way to exchange ideas and aspirations, a new way that makes you feel that you are not alone in this universe but many could share with you many things you believe in'
