Welcome to Pathways of Women's Empowerment Annual Report 2008-2009
Pathways has seen another very exciting and busy year. We are beginning to produce a body of work that will make a substantial contribution to knowledge and policy.
Highlights of the year include: Our Building Constituencies group presenting to a well attended panel on the NGO-ization of women’s movements at the Association for Women’s Rights in Development in Cape Town in November. A second Pathways panel on “Women’s Empowerment: What do men have to do with it?” drew a huge audience and conference participants rated both amongst their favourite sessions. The Empowering Work thematic group held a successful workshop in Delhi, in collaboration with the Institute of Social Studies Trust. An international conference on Sexuality and the Development Industry, co-organised with the DFID-funded IDS Sexuality and Development Programme took place in April. And our year culminated in a very successful Mid-Term Review conference which took place in Cairo in January.
This year has also seen our communications team grow in strength, and gain new skills. Communications highlights include a photography competition in Ghana, participation in the Feminist Technology Exchange, and the launch of an innovative scheme, Real World, an award for young filmmakers to work with Pathways to produce short films on women’s empowerment, in collaboration with the South East Film Council and Channel 4. The premiere of this year's films took place at the ICA in London on March 9, at which time the new scheme for 2009/10 was also launched.
